Privacy policy

Pangramist is a word-game tools website at pangramist.com. This page says what the site collects, what it does not collect, and what choices you have. It is written to be read, not skimmed past, so it is short on purpose.
What you type into the tools stays in your browser
The solvers, finders, and checkers on this site run on your device. The letters you enter are never sent to our servers, never stored, and never tied to you. Close the tab and they are gone. The site keeps a few things in your browser so the tools feel continuous (your current letters when you move between tools, and today's daily scramble rack, for example). That storage lives on your device, under your browser's controls, and you can clear it at any time from your browser settings.
What the site collects
We do not have accounts. We do not ask for your name, your email address, or your location, and we have no newsletter at the moment. If that ever changes, this policy changes first and the change is dated at the top of this page.
Like most websites, the site uses analytics to count visits and understand which tools and pages get used, so we can fix what is slow and build what people actually want. Analytics gives us totals and patterns (how many visits, which pages, roughly which country, what kind of device), not a record of what a named person did. Our server also keeps standard technical logs (the page requested, the time, and the type of browser) for security and for keeping the site running. Those logs are kept for a short period and then deleted on rotation.
Advertising and cookies
The site is free because it carries advertising. Ad partners, including Google, may use cookies or similar technology to show ads, to limit how often you see the same ad, and to measure how ads perform. Depending on your region and your choices, ads may be personalised using information from your visit here and from other sites, or shown without personalisation.
Cookies on this site fall into three groups:
- Cookies the site needs to work, such as remembering your cookie choice.
- Analytics cookies, which count visits in aggregate.
- Advertising cookies, set by ad partners as described above.
Where the law requires consent before analytics or advertising cookies are set, the site asks first, through the consent banner, and honours the answer. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser at any time. The tools work either way. Turning cookies off does not block any solver, list, or word page.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, Google's consent rules apply to how ads are served to you. The site uses a Google-certified consent management platform, and the consent banner is how that choice is recorded. Where consent is absent there, ads are served without personalisation.
If you are in California or another state with a similar law: a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link is live in the footer of every page from the day the site launches, not added later. Personalised advertising counts as sharing under California law, so that link, and your browser's Global Privacy Control signal, which this site honours, are how you opt out of it. Opting out does not stop ads. It stops the personalised kind, and the tools are unaffected either way.
Children
The site is a general-audience site. It is not aimed at children under 13, it has no children's section, and it does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us at the address below and we will delete it.
What we never do
We do not sell personal information. We do not build profiles of individual visitors. We do not receive, store, or transmit the letters you enter into the tools. We do not buy data about you from data brokers.
Your choices and how to reach us
You can clear your browser storage, block cookies, or use your browser's private mode at any time, and everything on the site still works. Questions about this policy, or a request about information you believe we hold, go to [email protected]. We answer privacy mail from a person, not a ticket system.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version is posted on this page with a new date at the top. Material changes (a new kind of collection, accounts, a newsletter) are announced on the site before they take effect, not buried in a revision.
